Speaking to CultBox on the set of ‘The Day of the Doctor’ in Cardiff earlier this year, the writer commented: “The single thing that I told myself – because this is a rare thing to do, if you think about it – what if it was the most important thing that ever happened to the Doctor?”
He teased: “Never mind celebrating it by resurrecting this or bringing back that – not saying I ain’t doing that as well – how about: It’s the day he won’t forget. How about we make the story that’s about him?”
Moffat explained: “It’s The Day. The day of his life. He’ll never, ever forget this one. He’ll never be the same again. It’s one of the very rare occasions when you say the Doctor will actually not be the same again. It will redefine him.”
The showrunner added: “I can honestly say we ended up in exactly the right place. We’ve ended up exactly where we should be.”
‘The Day of the Doctor’ will air at 7.50pm on Saturday 23 November on BBC One.
