7. Rory challenges the Cybermen in ‘A Good Man goes to War’ (2011)

Okay, so he was dressed up as a Roman Centurion, but we reckon Rory Williams melted some hearts when he fronted up to the Cybermen demanding information after his wife’s abduction.

 

6. Dream Danny tells Clara to move on in ‘Last Christmas’ (2014)

“You can miss me for five minutes a day. And you’d better do it properly. You’d better be sad. I expect my five…”

He may have been the result of a Dream Crab, but Danny still manages to touch our hearts as he gave Clara some rules for her grief.

 

5. Old Amy’s sacrifice in ‘The Girl Who Waited’ (2011)

The version of Amy, who lived all those years alone on Apalapucia, gives up her life to restore the timeline and grant her younger self a future with Rory.

 

4. River’s sacrifice in ‘Forest of the Dead’ (2008)

At their first meeting, from his perspective at least, the mysterious Professor River Song gives her life to stop the Tenth Doctor and restore the saved occupants of The Library.
