The aroma of the Christmas season already fills the air.

The time of merrymaking is approaching. For kids and family apart from the Christmas shopping and preparing for holiday vacations it is the time of the year they also look for some timeless Christmas movies to watch with the whole family together.

While the chilling night gets draped in thick snow cover, a timeless Christmas classic played in the home theatre just makes the perfect ambience for everyone indoor.

Here we’ve picked five impeccable movies to watch this Christmas with your family…

Fanny and Alexander

This famous Swedish classic by great director Ingmar Bergman is equally a soul scorching tale of two beautiful kids and a grave commentary on the social conventions and the flip side of it. The movie begins with the Christmas preparation in a wealthy house that slowly reveals the funny characters of the family members and their utter helplessness in groping with their own individual crisis.

As the movie continues, we see a disastrous blow of fate makes the kids almost orphans. How Alexander, the boy child and Fanny, the girl child deals with their fate and knows most disturbing truths of life makes way for a thrilling revelation for the audience.

Die Hard

If you are looking for some action packed drama decked with thrilling suspense rather than a movie demanding too much grey matter, this Bruce Willis starrer classic just makes the perfect choice. This movie also begins with Christmas Eve preparation and festive mood when we see a super cop enacted by Bruce Willis all set for spending the Christmas evening in fun and frolic but just had to engage in gun fighting with the terrorists to rescue hostages including his own wife.

This gripping story which owned several Oscars is a perfect Christmas thriller.

The Mask

This science fiction comedy is an all time favorite for kids as well as grownups. I bet this Jim Carrey starrer movie even after watching three or four times will hold the same appeal. The basic storyline goes like this. Stanley, a bank employee with a common man’s life suddenly gets a magic mask wearing which he can do superhuman things. The discovery gradually made him a superman who can gets his wishes fulfilled and make other people happy with his superman duds.

Jim Carrey made literally made 8 to 18 laugh for years with this all time classic. A small memory of watching this movie in Christmas still survived. When watching the movie for the first time my little kid with unstoppable laughter made his expensive Ted Baker jacket littered by spilling hot chocolate.

A Charlie Brown Christmas

Kids are still the biggest audience of Christmas movies and so a kind-only movie is a must in this list. This 25 minutes long cartoon is packed with ingredients for festive spirit, mirth and happiness.

Apart from the transporting animated characters the flawless, jazz-spirited music score is a key aspect of this widely popular Christmas movie. If you want to grab a old classic for your little ones this Christmas, it’s an obvious choice.

Edward Scissorhands

This Christmas want to watch a movie on a fictive character making things happen as in your dream? Well, there is no better choice than Edward Scissorhands. The protagonist character Edward played by Johnny Depp is person with exceptional scissor hands which is used by his host family and by the neighbors for a variety of purposes, often to the extent of superhuman effect.

In the end the host family along with Edward is ostracized from the village community. In the end Edward takes refuge in a dilapidated haunted house and rescues the family daughter from her jealous pursuer. It’s a movie with lot of fun, sweet and bitter moments, a perfect movie for a festive occasion.
