Thieves, criminals and even passing pedestrians do the strangest things on CCTV.
Sometimes they are aware of the fact, and at other times they are blissfully unaware of their crass stupidity. Here are five of the funniest CCTV fails of 2015…
Be careful when stealing a car
Stealing a car is never a good idea. Owners should be able to ensure that their precious motor vehicles are safe and secure in a garage, preferably protected by roller doors supplied by Security Direct but car owners in Mayfair were able to observe a hapless thief trying to attempt access to two Porsches, courtesy of CCTV.
The man was easy to identify and after failing to break into the first Porsche, he then tried to break into a second Porsche around the corner. Surprisingly the useless thief got clean away, though his actions were clearly visible on CCTV.
The security van break in
Some criminals really deserve to get caught. An article published by The Daily Mirror revealed two thieves tried to open the doors of a security van while leaning over from their seats of their Ford Fiesta. The van was actually parked outside the security firm’s offices.
The security company’s staff was alerted to this bizarre incident, courtesy of company CCTV. Needless to say the door couldn’t be opened and the crooks drove away. Local police later found their car.
Post Office crook caught by CCTV
A thief in Wales obviously couldn’t claim to have the highest IQ in the country, thanks to his stupid actions. First of all he broke into a Post Office, where his image was captured on CCTV. The crook later tried to buy a car with £1,000 worth of £1 coins that he had stolen from the Post Office.
He didn’t realise that his face had been broadcast throughout Wales and had been posted on South Wales Police Facebook accounts. The owner of the used car contacted the police as a result of this publicity and the thief was caught.
When life imitates art
The popular TV programme Little Britain, featured a sketch whereby David Walliams is a carer for an allegedly wheelchair bound Matt Lucas. Whenever Walliams’ back is turned Lucas nips out of the chair. Thieves in the West Midlands adopted this idea in a bizarre theft in the Coventry branch of Marks & Spencer.
A man is seen on CCTV pushing a wheelchair around the store, and then the woman being pushed appears to regain the use of her legs in order to stuff food products in her pockets. The extraordinary duo managed to steal £60 worth of meat products before they made their getaway.
Shunting a car – don’t do it on camera
Weirdly, CCTV captured the owner of a white van shunting a Peugeot several yards down a road. The Peugeot owner was confused when he couldn’t find his car in its original parking space.
He checked his CCTV only to see that a white van had moved his car leaving a damaged bumper and boot. According to Kent Online, the police are anxious to speak to the van owner.
