Netflix has released the Thursday Murder Club trailer — we bring you the updates

Based on Richard Osman’s bestseller, the Netflix film The Thursday Murder Club arrives on August 28. We’ve had a fair degree of publicity already, and this is the icing on a well-prepared cake. The film is directed by Chris Columbus and with a screenplay by Katy Brand and Suzanne Heathcote.

What is film about?

The film follows a group of friends in a retirement home who gather to solve murders for fun but find themselves caught in a real case. The four main members of the Thursday Murder Club are Helen Mirren as ex-spy Elizabeth, Ben Kingsley as ex-psychiatrist Ibrahim, Pierce Brosnan portraying ex–union activist Ron, and Celia Imrie taking on the role of ex-nurse Joyce. Other parts are played by Ingrid Oliver, David Tennant, Tom Ellis and many more.

So, not a series?

While we have a film rather than a series, assuming this does well (which we expect) there are further books in the series — The Man Who Died Twice, The Bullet That Missed, and The Last Devil to Die, as well as the newest instalment The Impossible Fortune, which is released later this year. Enough to keep us going for a few years.

Meantime, here’s the trailer:
