Whilst there were many tear-jerking moments during the show’s five seasons, here are five Merlin scenes that truly broke our hearts…
‘The Diamond of the Day: Part 2’ is pretty much non-stop emotional turmoil (crying throughout is likely), but we think this moment from the show’s finale is worthy of second place.
It is of course, the scene we all like to forget about; Gwaine’s death. Sir Gwaine was the charming, happy go lucky knight; always supplying us with a laugh and saving the day more than once. So, when he says that he ‘failed’ and then drifts away as a broken Percival cradles his face, it’s a sure thing that you’ll be reaching for the Ben & Jerry’s.
And now we reach our ultimate heartbreaking Merlin moment. Are you ready? Obviously, also coming from the finale, it’s Arthur’s death scene.
As we said earlier, the whole episode will probably see you through an entire box of man-size Kleenex, but nothing will quite hit you like the inevitable moment of losing our king.
To quote Alexander Vlahos, “It becomes a brilliant love story between Arthur and Merlin,” and that it does. Merlin did everything in his power to follow his destiny, to save his best friend, but alas he could not.
