8 ‘Doctor Who’ episodes to cheer you up

Even the happiest of campers sometimes needs a televisual pick-me-up, and a good episode or two – or six, or twelve, or 813 – of comforting Doctor Who is an especially effective prescription.

Here are a few suggestions to elevate your spirits when you’re feeling (TARDIS) blue…

 

‘The Lodger’

Matt Smith and James Corden play off each other brilliantly as the Doctor works to solve the mystery of the suspiciously spooky flat above Craig’s, while going undercover (albeit with mixed results) as a totally normal human flatmate.

Love literally saves the day in this one – a slightly cheesy concept, perhaps, but it’s still more of a pleasantly nutty 18-month Comté than a packet of individually-wrapped rubbery slices.

 

‘City of Death’

Doctor Who City of Death

The imagination of writer Douglas Adams David Agnew brings us Tom Baker and Lalla Ward dashing through the streets of Paris, Julian Glover as just about the best-dressed one-eyed time-fragmented adversary the show has ever seen, and of course, the inimitable Duggan.

I think I may well be justified in going so far as to call it zany. This is feel-good Who at its very best.

 

‘Partners in Crime’

The thing is, if it were real, and they told us what it was, I’d still have gone on the Adipose Weight Loss Plan.

Congrats to Ten and Donna for solving the mystery of such an effective weight loss supplement and becoming the best snarky best friends ever, though, and what a brilliant and funny piece of television this episode was.
