There have been some terrific TARDIS teams in Doctor Who, so here is a rundown of the Doctor’s best gangs, as voted by our readers…
11. The Fourth Doctor, Sarah and Harry
Drafted in to handle the action in case an older Doctor was cast, Medical Doctor Harry Sullivan rounded out the team of The Doctor and Sarah nicely.
Occasionally derided as an idiot (and who wouldn’t look like one next to those two?), he was a heroic fella who clearly had a soft spot for Sarah and could always be relied upon to do the right thing.
10. The Fifth Doctor, Adric, Nyssa and Tegan
While he inherited all three from his previous incarnation, it was the Fifth Doctor who drew these companions together into a group of friends (sort of) referring to a “trim time ship and a ship-shape team.”
Although the personalities often clashed, with Tegan eternally chomping at the bit to get home and Adric’s occasionally misguided loyalties, they were a close group and devastated by the boy genius’s death in ‘Time Flight’.
9. The Twelfth Doctor, Clara, Psi and Sabira in ‘Time Heist’
Pulled together to break the bank of Kalabraxos by the mysterious Architect, this was not truly a TARDIS team but certainly a gang with Sabira’s shape-changing abilities and Psi’s technical skills proving essential to solve the mystery.
8. The Eleventh Doctor, Amy, Rory, Brian, Riddell and Queen Nefertiti in ‘Dinosaurs on a Spaceship’
Rather conveniently gathered together, this was the team the Doctor brought on board the Silurian ship to foil the nefarious scheme of Solomon the trader. There were enough in fact that Amy took a leading role and she felt as though Nefertiti and Riddell were her companions.
For us, the true delight of this team was Brian, Rory’s Dad who coped admirably with being accidentally abducted and drawn into the Doctor’s madcap world.
