As we prepare for the first part of Season 8’s finale on Saturday night, CultBox has decided to take a look back at the previous ten episodes and reveal our favourite so far…
3. ‘Kill the Moon’
What we said: “It’s a stunning performance by Jenna Coleman, who lives every second of it, and Capaldi almost matches it when the Doctor’s previously impregnable wall of sarcastic superiority starts to crumble.”
2. ‘Flatline’
What we said: “There is a particular joy in having Capaldi dislocated from the action, commenting on it like an over-involved fan – at times one step ahead of the plot, at times exactly simultaneous with Clara. It’s a sub-plot, too, which links into this year’s wider themes of responsibility and cruelty.”
1. ‘Listen’
What we said: “Whereas so much Doctor Who in recent years, in its forwards-backwards storytelling, has relied on the assumption that viewers will watch it more than once, ‘Listen’ is made for the thrill of watching it the first time.”
