Spooks returns next year as BBC One’s spy drama makes its big screen debut with the much-anticipated Spooks: The Greater Good.
CultBox caught up with the movie’s writers, Sam Vincent and Jonathan Brackley, to find out their all-time favourite moments from the show…
Your favourite Spooks character:
JB: “It’s got to be Harry. He’s the daddy of the show. And the type of person I hope really exists in MI5.”
SV: “Harry for me too. Thanks to Peter and the years of good writing, he’s grown naturally from a relatively secondary character to the one who totally embodies the show.”
Your favourite Spooks exit:
JB: “Tom’s decommissioning. Matthew MacFadyen is just so damn good. Although Adam’s death should get an honourable mention – I just love that effect as he’s engulfed in flames. So unexpected.”
SV: “Danny’s death, with its final act of heroic defiance, to goad the terrorist into shooting him instead of Fiona… brilliant. Also Colin’s, with his tragic speech. Probably the saddest Spooks moment ever.“
Your favourite Spooks episode:
JB: “2.2 with the British suicide bombers is particularly memorable. Howard Brenton’s episodes always are. The bomb going off at the end is truly shocking. The coup episodes of Series 5 are also a favourite.”
SV: “7.7. Such good plotting and pacing, so many revelations, great stuff with Lucas in Moscow, Harry being interrogated, and of course, Connie…”
Your favourite Spooks twist:
“It has to be Connie being revealed as the FSB mole in 7.7 – who could forget that hiss!”
Your favourite Spooks romance:
“Come on. There’s only one Spooks romance. Harry and Ruth 4eva.”
