Here are 10 Rogue One Easter eggs you may have missed…

You probably noticed the brief cameos of Red Leader and Gold Leader during the battle of Scarif and guessed at some surprisingly good recasting, or some CGI necromancy like the Grand Moff Tarkin scenes. Well the story behind this one shows how Gareth Edwards was exactly the mad fanboy that this film needed.

During a tour of Skywalker Ranch, after trying on Han Solo’s jacket (because who wouldn’t) Edwards came across some canisters of film. He was told that the film stock inside was raw footage from the filming of A New Hope that hadn’t been digitised. At that point, we like to think that he did everything in his power not to jump and down and squeal like a twelve year old girl. And then failed.

The shots of Red and Gold Leader are actually unused takes from A New Hope that visual effects team Industrial Light And Magic scaled up and fiddled about with so that the backgrounds matched the new footage. Topped off with some brand new dialogue from Gold Leader himself Angus MacInnes. And while Wedge Antilles was never seen onscreen, he did make a brief voice-only cameo manning the intercom on Yavin IV, voiced by David Ankrum who originally dubbed over Denis Lawson in A New Hope. So now the real question is where was Porkins? You had one job, Edwards!
