7 times James Bond totally ruined someone’s wedding

Posted Filed under

It’s well-known to anyone familiar with the James Bond franchise that our hero is not a big fan of weddings.

Which is fair enough really, considering that his own marriage came to a somewhat abrupt end in 1969’s On Her Majesty’s Secret Service when Blofeld and sidekick Irma Bunt sped past and shot the new Mrs. Bond in the head before our hero could even drive her home from the ceremony.

But had you ever realised quite how frequently 007 ends up ruining other couples’ weddings?

Here are just some of the nuptials that Bond has done his best to f*ck up…

You Only Live Twice

It might only be a fake wedding, but Bond still turns up wearing eye make-up and this wig in an ill-advised attempt to look Japanese in You Only Live Twice. Not acceptable wedding etiquette.

Live and Let Die

Live and Let Die sees Bond embark on an epic boat chase through the Louisiana Bayous. And directly through this poor couple’s wedding cake.

A View to a Kill

Not content with destroying one wedding cake in his first outing as Bond, Roger Moore concluded his seven-film run in A View to a Kill by jumping off a bridge into another following a car chase across Paris.

Licence to Kill

Left in charge of getting his best friend to his wedding on time? Sod that when you could be dangling out of a helicopter. Of course, Felix Leiter’s wedding day in Licence to Kill goes even further downhill when new wife Della is brutally murdered a few hours later and Felix finds himself being fed to a shark, but Bond can’t strictly be blamed for that.

From Russia with Love

Upon discovering that his Istanbul hotel room in From Russia with Love has been bugged, Bond requests an upgrade. “I’m sorry, sir. That’s all we have available. Except the bridal suite.” Of course, Bond accepts, and off-screen a couple enjoying their wedding night are no doubt booted out onto the street.

Diamonds are Forever

“Darling, why are we staying at the bridal suite at the Whyte House?”, asks Tiffany in Diamonds are Forever. Because if Bond never made it to the bridal suite on his own big day, he’ll be damned if anyone can have the room, that’s why.

Moonraker

We’ll never know for sure, but it’s a safe bet given Bond’s history that this amorous couple in Moonraker were probably on their honeymoon too when they had their gondola cut in half during a boat chase through Venice.
