Why we love David Tennant

With a lengthy acting career spanning nearly 20 years to date, David Tennant truly captured the world’s hearts when he was cast in Doctor Who as one of Britain’s most iconic characters.

Although many actors have been great in the show’s lead role, Tennant regularly still tops polls as the fans’ favourite Doctor. An opinion perhaps shared by the BBC, as they are set to bring him back, along with Catherine Tate’s Donna, for a brand new audio series next year.

Here’s a few things that you may not know about David Tennant…

He loves the grumpy roles

In real life, David Tennant is a happy-go-lucky sort of guy. He’s positive, kind and enthusiastic. On screen however, his preference is somewhat different, as he likes the grumpy roles. He says one of his favourite roles was in Broadchurch, as he had the chance to play the role of someone who was somewhat difficult and taciturn.

Stamps collect him

Tennant has had his face on two different UK postage stamps. That’s one more than the Queen herself!

He’s had his face on a stamp commemorating the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who, as well as one marking the 50th anniversary of the Royal Shakespeare Company.

Speaking out against tabloids

Given that many tabloid publications in the UK have been outed as hacking deviants, it’s probably of little surprise that a figure like Tennant has given his telecommunication security some thought.

Tennant spoke out about the possibility of being hacked: “I’m not suggesting my phone was hacked, although it would make sense of certain moments when I was surprised about how some information became public,” he said. “It’s difficult to do anything about inaccuracy or intrusion, even if you think you have a good case. It becomes very expensive very quickly.”

In fact, fears of privacy breaches have led to companies like this one responding with TLS (Transport Layer Security) encryption technology and far more complex security for e-mailing.

He’s naturally in shape

He once said in an interview that he didn’t have to work to keep his figure, his body weight naturally stays around the same regardless of how much he eats. He has always feared a role where he would have to put on weight, as he says his metabolism operates at such high speeds.
