Apocalypse in a box, courtesy of ‘The Walking Dead’

Ordinarily, CultBox likes being awoken early on a Saturday morning about as much as Rick Grimes enjoyed coming to consciousness in an empty hospital surrounded by corpses and the pervading sense that his wife and best friend are commemorating his death by getting off with each other.

However, today was different, as the banging at the door wasn’t a stumbling, groaning cadaver – insert postman joke here – but a deliveryman bearing a HIGH QUALITY PROMOTIONAL ITEM: apocalypse in a box.

Yes, to celebrate the imminent return of The Walking Dead, FX have sent us a board game which recreates post-end-of-the-world America as vividly as Andrew Lincoln reproduces a Georgia accent.

Participants can play as one of many characters – hero deputy, psycho deputy, confused wife, compassionate hillbilly, skinhead mother, suicide blonde, horny geek teenager, religious farmer, randy daughter, T-Dog – and struggle to survive in a world full of walkers, or play as the zombies themselves and EAT HUMAN FLESH.

Actually, this isn’t necessarily true. We haven’t read the rules yet. But we are looking forward to playing it – almost as much as we’re looking forward to finally seeing the rest of Season 2, which resumes in America on tomorrow night at 9(8c) on AMC and in the UK next Friday at 9pm on FX.
