9 things we’re most excited about in the ‘Doctor Who’ Season 9 trailer

Hold onto your console, here are 9 thoughts on Season 9’s tantalising trailer…

Old aliens…

Doctor Who 9 Zygons

The Daleks are back, which by now is no surprise – there’s not been a season without them since the show returned in 2005 – but where in Season 9 will they appear? Could it be that the opening two-parter will see both Missy and the Daleks? Is that why she’s looking so worried in every shot? Or have we just had our first sneak peek at the finale?

Just as exciting, we get our first glimpse of the Zygons since ‘The Day of The Doctor’. The rubbery shape-changers are back in Peter Harness’ two-parter, along with Osgood. She’s notable by her absence here. Or is that ZygOsgood snatching that child?

One of the best things about the trailer is it demonstrates that the show isn’t running out of terrifying new monsters any time soon. The eyeless, ghostly folk stalking the waterlogged corridors look particularly effective, while there’s a horrible…erm…thing that seems to have The Doctor pinned down. Maybe that’s what he wants to kiss…?

We’ve also got hooded alien, things in blocky metal spacesuits, and the arresting sight of hands emerging from the mud. It all looks very dark and sinister; perfect for those dwindling autumn evenings.

It’s an image which has already seized the imagination of fans on Twitter. Who was the last Doctor to play a guitar? I think it was Seven in ‘Delta and the Bannermen’, but answers on a postcard please.

Is Peter Capaldi planning on being in Doctor Who: The Musical? Doubt it. Are the shades he’s wearing the same thermal imagining ones that Eleven sports in ‘The Hungry Earth’? That’s slightly more plausible.
