Here’s our January 2024 Podcast Roundup – our favourites from the worlds of CultBox.

In no particular order, the picks this month are…

The Last Ever Two Shot Podcast – Craig chats with Vicky McClure

Okay, a slight cheat as it was released on December 31st 2023, but our first podcast listen of 2024 was the final episode of The Two Shot Podcast. Finishing after six years, the show was finally on the other foot as host became guest and Craig Parkinson was interviewed by his Line of Duty co-star Vicky McClure – the guest whose interview kicked of the series back in July 2017.

Where There’s A Will, There’s a Wake – Here Lies Peter Capaldi

Where there's a will, there's a wake

In a rare podcast appearance, Peter Capaldi joins host Kathy Burke to discuss his fantasy funeral arrangements. After a mysterious death with linked to fish and chips, they involve ice cream on entry and a wake in a famous museum of art.

It’s an entertaining (and sweary) 50 minutes, which plenty of anecdotes from the actor’s life. Plus, further confirmation that his surname is correctly pronounced Ca-PAL-di (he’ll be your pal if you get it right!)

The Radio Times Podcast – Nicole Kidman

This month, the podcast also spoke to Tamsin Grieg about her unconventional childhood, The Archers, sitcoms and her new role in the television series prequel to the cult 90s gangster movie Sexy Beast.

Brydon & – Alex MacQueen

Bryon & podcast

Capaldi’s fellow The Thick of It star, and sometime Doctor Who audio Master, joins Rob Brydon for an engaging chat. The conversation veers from how unsuited MacQueen was to being a barrister, The Inbetweeners, and working with Julia Davis, Sir Kenneth Branagh (and Brydon himself.)

The Sirens of Audio – 184. WENDY PADBURY – An Astrophysicist Down Under

The Aussie Doctor Who audio podcast chats to Wendy Padbury, who played Zoe Herriot in the Pat Troughton era. The chat focusses on her early years pre-Who, as well as her time working as an agent. As well as representing Colin Baker, she ‘discovered’ Matt Smith! There’s also a discussion about her stage role in Doctor Who and the Daleks in Seven Keys to Doomsday.

The podcast acts as a precursor to Padbury’s trip to Australia for a series of Sirens’ events in February 2024.

Also this month, Justin Johnson and Dick Fiddy of the BFI dropped by to chat about their work celebrating the Doctor Who animations and The Collection Blu-ray releases, as well as the organisation’s long history with the show.
