Here are some of the highlights…
Robert Emms (Pythagoras)
On trigonometry: ‘I am really rubbish at Maths. If I knew I was going to play Pythagoras, I would have focused more in my Maths class.’
On his hairstyle: ‘They made me look a bit like Art Garfunkel.’
Jack Donnelly (Jason)
On winning the part: ‘I googled The Man from Atlantis before the first audition. I saw Patrick Duffy and thought, ‘I’m in! He’s got the same hair!’ ’
On on-set pranking: ‘I’ve walked out of a lot of scenes and there’s Mark with his bum out.’
On getting in shape for the shirtless scenes: ‘I’ve started doing the insanity programme. I’ve had chicken and broccoli for lunch for the past five months.’
Aiysha Hart (Ariadne)
On wicked stepmothers: ‘Who doesn’t want to be slapped by Sarah Parish?’
Mark Addy (Hercules)
On family storytelling: ‘There are shows that I grew up watching that are still iconic and this belongs in that category… It’s like shooting a series of feature films back to back.’
On the possibility of buffing up as a more recognisably muscular Hercules: ‘I know the day that’s going to happen, and that’s the day Hell freezes over.’
Sarah Parish (Pasiphae)
On the scale of the production: ‘It’s quite incredible. It’s like this big machine.’
On gleefully lording it up on set: ‘The royalty are very much the royalty and the peasants are very much the peasants. There’s a huge divide.’
On being a wicked woman: ‘I would say she is vulnerable and misunderstood.’
Jemima Rooper (Medusa)
On returning to collaborate with series creators, Julian Murphy and Johnny Capps: ‘It’s nice to be home. They’re like my weird uncles.’
On the doomed city: ‘It depends how many people watch it whether it’s going to get flooded sooner or later!’
Atlantis begins on Saturday 28 September on BBC One.
