Infographic: The Hitchhiker’s Guide to Hacking

Posted Filed under

Norton have put together a new infographic explaining the history and dangers of hacking, based on Douglas Adams’ cult book series The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.

The guide has been designed help users stay protected against hackers, using examples from the likes of Weird Science and WarGames!

The first hack ever recorded was in the 1930s when computing pioneer Alan Turing managed to decipher messages sent by Nazis using the German’s top secret German military cipher machine, the ‘Enigma’. Sherlock actor Benedict Cumberbatch will star as Turing in a new movie, The Imitation Game, later this year.

However, 1999’s The Matrix remains cinema’s most exciting take on hacking, introducing a bold new visual style that was imitated (with varying degrees of success) in Hollywood for the following decade.
