The Brooklyn Nine-Nine will voice celebrity archaeologists on Digman!

Comedy Central have released details for Andy Samberg’s upcoming animated 30 minute series Digman! The show takes place in a world where archaeologists are massive celebrities and the coolest people on the planet.

With Samberg playing the role of Rip Digman, the show has announced six other cast members. Tim Robinson (Netflix’s I Think You Should Leave), Mitra Jouhari, Dale Soules, Guz Khan (Our Flag Means Death) and Tim Meadows (The Goldbergs) will star.

However, the big news is the casting of Melissa Fumero – Samberg’s Brooklyn Nine-Nine co-star. As Jake Peralta and Amy Santiago, they starred in eight seasons of Fox’s (and later NBC’s) hit police comedy series.

Andy Samberg writes and produces the show, and co-creates along with Brooklyn Nine-Nine executive producer Neil Campbell. Campbell also serves as its showrunner. Together they say:

“As kids we were led to believe that archaeologists are all bad-ass, adventure-seeking rock stars, but after spending 20 long years pursuing careers in archaeology we now see that was a lie perpetuated by Big Hollywood. So we created Digman! to finally bring our childhood dreams to life. Plus, we noticed a dearth of new TV shows recently and figured it was wholly on us to bring the world what it’s missing the most: content.”

The series comes from Titmouse Studios (Star Trek: Lower Decks), with executive producers Chris Prynoski, Shannon Prynoski, Antonio Canobbio and Ben Kalina. Grant Gish also executive produces, with Sachi Ezura as co-executive producer and Michael Stanger as supervising producer for MTV Entertainment Studios.

Animated Samberg

Of course, this is not Andy Samberg’s first dip into the world of animation. He’s voiced the character of Johnny in four Hotel Transylvania movies and its associated shorts. Plus, he was the voice of Dale for the recent Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers film too.

On the writing front, he penned ‘John and Sun-Hee’ – one of the short films which made up The Boys: Diabolical anthology.
