Could the BBC bring back David Tennant’s Doctor for a big-screen Doctor Who outing? Former showrunner Russell T Davies and companion John Barrowman have chatted about the idea…
Barrowman, who played Captain Jack Harkness in Doctor Who and went on to reprise the role in Torchwood across TV episodes and audio dramas, said this to the Radio Times:
“I can’t remember what ceremony it was, but I was speaking to [Davies] – he’d picked up an award for A Very English Scandal – and we said: ‘Wouldn’t it be great if we could do a Torchwood or Doctor Who movie with [Captain] Jack, David [Tennant] and Billie [Piper]?
“If I can boast, the three of us, we all call each other ‘The Golden Age’ [laughs]…The three of us made such an impact that people still talk about us to this day, which is great!”
Of course, such the suggestion of seeing Tennant’s Doctor back on screen for the first time since the big fiftieth anniversary special will be enough to excite his legions of fans.
As for whether this movie will ever happen, though, it feels like a bit of a long shot. We wouldn’t bet on this happening, not even at somewhere like sa gaming. Although its true that previous Doctors have come back for guest appearances over the years, seeing one come back to lead their own film would be more than a little unprecedented. But still, we can hope…
