Frasier - Kelsey Grammer as Dr Frasier Crane

Frasier – the revival is commissioned for a series at Paramount+

The show will follow the enduring character of Dr Frasier Crane as he begins (another) new stage of his life.

Tossed salads and scrambled eggs anyone?

The revival of Frasier has the official go-ahead for a series on Paramount+. While the number of episodes remain unconfirmed, Deadline are suggesting it may be 10.

Fraiser - Kelsey Grammer

The character’s return to our screens has been talked about since 2018 but came to a head earlier this year. However, there’s little news on the new situation for the comedy, save that it will focus on Kelsey Grammer’s Dr Frasier Crane in a new city (again). Consequently, we expect him to be surrounded by a coterie of new characters.

Relocations

The show ended its original 11-year, multiple Emmy award winning run in 2004 with Frasier passing up a new job in San Francisco. Instead, he headed to Chicago to be with his new love Charlotte (Laura Linney).

However, relocations are nothing new for the character as Frasier itself was a spin off from Cheers (1982 – 1993). It lifted the character from the Boston-based bar sitcom and gave him a new career – working as a radio psychiatrist and sharing a flat with his cranky father.

Many of the Cheers regulars visited Seattle during his time there; the same approach could be taken with Frasier regulars Niles (David Hyde Pierce), Daphne (Jane Leeves) and Roz (Peri Gilpin) too.

Family

Frasier also has a son Freddie with his ex-wife Lillith (Bebe Neuwirth) – both could potentially feature. Sadly John Mahoney, who played his retired cop father Martin, passed away in 2018.

This new Frasier show comes from writers Chris Harris (How I Met Your Mother) and Joe Cristalli (Life In Pieces). They executive produce alongside Grammer, Tom Russo and Jordan McMahon. CBS Studios are producing in association with Grammer’s Grammnet NH Productions.

We’ll keep you posted on Frasier. In the meantime, while they cook up the new series, all 11 seasons of the show are available in the UK on All 4, Sky Go and Paramount+.
