Get ready for more murderous macaque mayhem!
One of the streaming delights for us of 2022 was Marvel’s Hit-Monkey… and thanks to news in The Hollywood Reporter, it appears we can look forward to seeing him on the loose again.
Adapted from the original comic book series, created by writer Daniel Way and artist Dalibor Talajić, the gun-toting simian assassin landed in the UK via Disney+.
The show originated from the now defunct Marvel Television, as one of their five animated series. However, due to behind-the scenes-changes, only Hit-Monkey and M.O.D.O.K. actually made it to air. The latter was cancelled after its first run; hearing nothing since, we imagined Hit-Monkey had suffered the same fate.
However, it appears the simian survives… albeit with a minor rebrand: it’s now just Hit-Monkey, losing that Marvel prefix.
Hit-Monkey follows the story of a Japanese snow monkey who becomes an assassin to get revenge on the crime bosses that murdered his family. As he does, his spirit guide is a wise-cracking former hit man, voiced by Jason Sudeikis.
We read that season 2 will transfer the action to New York. Stars Olivia Munn, Jason Sudeikis, Ally Maki and Fred Tatasciore are returning, while Leslie Jones will join the cast. Co-creators Josh Gordon and Will Speck remain as executive producers.
Available via Hulu in the US, Hit-Monkey streams on Disney+ in the UK. We’ll keep you posted on season 2.
