Jurassic Park: Where are the Actors Now?

It may seem like yesterday for fans of Jurassic Park but the original release of the movie was back in 1993. The science fiction action film was directed by Steven Spielberg and is based on the 1990 novel of the same name by Michael Crichton. Set on the fictional island of Isla Nublar, Jurassic Park focuses on a wildlife park full of de-extinct dinosaurs. The movie is noted for using  ground-breaking computer-generated imagery and life-sized animatronic dinosaurs but what about the actors? Some were well known before Jurassic Park but where are they now?

Sam Neill (Dr Alan Grant)

New Zealand star Sam Neill was already well known in the acting industry and did not make his name in the Jurassic Park movie. However, Neill certainly earned himself a new group of fans as Dr Alan Grant. Neill has since had roles in many popular movies and television shows, including future Jurassic Park movies, Hunt for the Wilderpeople, Peter Rabbit, Peaky Blinders, Event Horizon, and The Tudors. Some of Neill’s most recent work includes Thor: Love and Thunder and The Twelve. At one point, following his appearance in Jurassic Park, Neill was being tipped to play James Bond but the fact the next Bond will be in his 30s means Neill is out of the running.

Jeff Goldblum (Dr Ian Malcolm)

Prior to Jurassic Park, most film fans would have known Jeff Goldblum for his starring role in David Cronenberg’s The Fly. But if you’re a Jurassic Park connoisseur, you may know him best as Dr Ian Malcolm, who aside of being an integral part of the classic, has also made his appearance in many of the Jurassic Park-themed games and online slots that have been released throughout the years. Following his appearance in Jurassic Park as Dr Ian Malcolm, Goldblum has enjoyed several roles in movies including Independence Day, The Grand Budapest Hotel, Isle of Dogs, and Thor: Ragnarok. Goldblum currently hosts his own television show called The World According to Jeff Goldblum, a series in which the American actor explores the world and meets experts in various fields.

Laura Dern (Dr Ellie Sattler)

Having previously starred in movies including Wild at Heart and Blue Velvet, Laura Dern gathered a new following for her role as Dr Ellie Sattler in Jurassic Park. Having won her first Oscar nomination for Rambling Rose, Dern has gone on to star in October Sky, A Perfect World, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Little Women, and The Fault in Our Stars and Wild, the latter of which earner her second Oscar nomination. Some of Dern’s most recent work include Jurassic World Dominion, The Son, and upcoming television series, Mrs. American Pie.
