Now That ‘Vikings’ is Ending, What Can We Watch Next?

For fans of the hit History Channel show Vikings, the recent announcement that the final ten episodes of the series will be airing on streaming services over the coming days came as an unexpected blow.

It feels like there is still a lot to wrap up with the show, and it seems difficult to imagine the intrigues, affairs, and the coming battle with the Rus being resolved in 10 short episodes.

However, all good things must come to an end, and six seasons is a pretty good run for a historical drama filmed on the sumptuous scale of Vikings. If you’re not ready to say goodbye to Lagertha and Floka, here are some alternatives that you can try out once the final episode has aired.

1. The Last Kingdom

This is probably the show that most closely resembles the plot, style, and setting of Vikings. The action takes place only a few years after the Vikings storyline ends, in the middle of the 10th century. The show is definitely more historically accurate than Vikings, as it closely follows the life of Uhtred the Bold, who was kidnapped by Danish Vikings during the conquest of Saxon York and raised as one of their own, before returning to the British Isles later on.

2. The Official Vikings Online Game

If it is only Vikings that you have eyes for, then you can continue to follow the adventures of your favourite characters with the official Vikings online slot game. This branded five-reel slot is available at Mobilewins, a deposit by phone casino that allows you to wager real money via their phone billing, rather than via a bank card. In the Vikings official slot game, you follow the trials and tribulations of Bjorn, Floki, and Ragnor in your quest to win unimaginable treasures.

3. Black Sails

The Viking and pirate genres have always been closely intertwined, given the historical parallels between the two. That’s why any fan of Vikings will likely appreciate Black Sails, a gritty and gory drama that follows the adventures of 17th-century pirates such as Long John Silver and Billy Bones as they pillage their way around the Caribbean. The set design is exquisite, and the producers have gone to considerable lengths to ensure as much historical accuracy as possible, making this an ideal choice for history buffs.

4. Norsemen

If you would rather watch something a little bit more lighthearted after all of the emotional trauma that the final season of Vikings is bound to inflict upon us, then pivot to the hilarious comedy show Norsemen. It’s an English-language Norwegian production that essentially parodies Norse culture and our own modern culture’s misguided reverence of it. This is far from high-comedy, so expect plenty of physical comedy gags and fart jokes, but it is nonetheless a hilarious take on a topic that some people take too seriously.

Vikings might be coming to an end, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t plenty of similar content to enjoy. Until the Vikings sequel comes out on Netflix, these options will have to tide you over.
