Many were disappointed when it was confirmed that the on-going sixth season of ‘Peaky Blinders’ will be the final season of the series. However, smiles returned when creator Steven Knight confirmed that the beloved gangster family will return for a feature film. The production is set to begin in 2023.
The show, which follows the Birmingham-based Shelby gangster family in the interwar period, is nearing its end. In the set time period, gambling was only legal at the racecourses and became a big hit among higher as well as lower social classes. The large sums of money spent at the events provided fertile ground for gangster gangs, such as the Shelby’s, which is why that is the setting for many of the season climaxes.
Today, much of the excitement of wagering money lives on, and for those who are interested in British gambling, can find more information at https://www.spinsify.com/uk/new-casinos/.
Feature film to bring some hope to heartbroken fans
Last year, it was confirmed that the sixth season, which is currently airing on BBC, will be the final season of the series. The season is broadcasted without fan favorite Aunt Polly, who was portrayed by Helen McRory who sadly lost her fight against cancer in the spring of last year. In light of both sad news, fans were delighted to hear that the story will continue in a feature film. The film be written by series creator Steven Knight and will begin production in 2023.
The film will be special in more ways than one. Knight has revealed that the production will feature students from the various British film academies and institutions. The student crew will be named the “second unit” and get proper experience of their preferred production, something Knight has criticized other production teams for not providing enough of within the film industry.
Knight not to take part in any spin-offs
At a panel during the BFI London Film Festival, Knight revealed that though there may be series spin-offs, or “shows related” to the Peaky Blinders universe as he likes to call them, he will not be taking part in their production. However, his statement shows some promise for fans of the series to expect more material from other producers.
Never-ending critical acclaim
The show has established itself as a household name in British and global television. In 2019, it was ranked the best series of the last decade by Twitter users, closely followed by Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones. The fan award follows a long line of award wins and nominations for the show, including several nominations and wins from the prestigious British Academy Film Awards, commonly known as the BAFTA’s.
