The 5 Best Games From Movies of The Last Decade

Games and movies often work hand in hand, but are any of the games from movies actually good? Let’s look at the best games from the last decade to find out

Movies based on video games have proved to be a hit-or-miss genre. There is a fine line between an awful game that leaves a bad taste in your mouth and a game that truly elevates the experience you receive. There is nothing worse than being let down by a game title that comes from a movie you feel so passionately about that you ritualistically watch it at least once a year. This list will be focused on the best games, not some of the far below mediocre attempts such as superman 64; it is about amazing games such as the LEGO games based on movies and more to come.

Instead of merely releasing games to promote upcoming movies, developers are creating standalone experiences that incorporate elements from a film while telling a unique tale. That will be this list’s focus, so you won’t waste your time and money on a quick cash grab that cannot stand the test of time.

The now upgraded and responsive physics system, and an almost-free roam feel, is the franchise stepping back in the right direction. The approach to this game was to make a more compact version of its predecessor, which makes the necessary improvements, so the game doesn’t feel as long-winded, while still being an action-packed adventure full of content to keep you entertained. The game features up to 10 hours if you only do the story and take no time to enjoy the web-swinging physics, which we know no one will resist. Miles Morales will still offer you tons of side quests to keep your ‘Spidey senses’ tingling.

Star Wars games at a glance

There is some dangerous territory here. We have seen an abundance of attempts to recreate the amazing  Star Wars cult-followed universe, and it’s no surprise that we have had far more let-downs in the last decade than anything else. That’s not to say that there have been no good titles coming from this universe; it’s simply just easier to find something that will entirely put you off the series of games dedicated to this galactic menace of a franchise.

There are two titles you should consider playing if you are a true fan of the series, however. These titles include the 2004 Star Wars Battlefront , which, despite being over a decade old, is definitely worth taking on a trip down memory lane to enjoy some good old fashioned trench warfare in the Star Wars universe. The next title to pay attention to is a lot more up-to-date. Released in 2020, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order allows you to grind your way through the universe and become the most powerful Jedi.

Mad Max

Experience the perilous world of Mad Max, a lone warrior in a post-apocalyptic setting where cars are the key to survival. It’s an action-packed, open-world, third-person action game in which you need to fight for your life against vicious gangs of bandits in The Wasteland, using both brutal ground combat and vehicular combat. With an instinct for survival, Max longs to leave the madness behind, while exploring the mysterious ‘Plains of Silence.’
Players are challenged with treacherous missions as they forage around the dangerous terrain seeking supplies to build the ultimate combat vehicle. Fantastic graphics, along with a real apocalyptic feel make for a fantastic experience. It is unfortunate that this game was passed off as a money grab to hype up the film that was coming out. However, Mad Max is a cult gem that deserves to be rediscovered.

LEGOⓇ games

For over a decade, the LEGOⓇ franchise has been consistently putting out quality titles of your favourite movies: from Batman and Harry Potter, to the Star Wars movies and many other acclaimed titles. Play through your favourite films recreated in the LEGOⓇ , providing an incredibly wholesome experience for any gamer and movie fan alike, with crisp and easy-to-handle controls.

A first-timer will not realise how high the skill-ceiling goes until they have played through the entire game, only to discover they have missed out on money, easter eggs, and other collectables. They will be itching for another go at the entire game to get all the beautifully crafted items they do not already have. The latest title is due for release next year, so keep an eye out for LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga.

Alien: Isolation

Horror movies are nothing new. But think about what it would be like to be the main character in your favourite horror movie. In Alien: Isolation, you are directly immersed in the atmosphere and environment that were the driving forces in making Alien so scary. As Riply, the sole survivor, you are on your own aboard a space station-like vessel. However, after the initial silent treatment the game gives you, any sounds not made by you create a disturbing atmosphere.
As you navigate your way through this massive, abandoned vessel, looking into the detailed pieces the space skybox has to offer, you are also constantly being stalked by, and attacking, Xenomorph. That’s right; it’s the Xenomorph from Alien. Rather than scripting the interactions between the player and the alien, the developers have left these completely unexpected, giving the game an enormous amount of replay value. Use your mind to solve puzzles and uncover the mysteries while constantly checking the heartbeat detector and your limited supplies to ensure that you are alone, and can stay alive on this ship that you so desperately need to leave.
With Halloween around the corner, why not indulge in this thrilling universe.
