There’s something a little bit magical about celebrities. Some of them we lust over; others we envy; and some we admire for their skills. They create fanfare wherever they go, command your attention without even seeming to have to try, and video game makers know all about it. Sometimes you’ll be playing a game and notice a familiar face stroll by and wonder if it was that person from on the TV, or be listening to the voiceover and know that you recognize that voice from somewhere. It could even be that you’re playing a game online and a screen name pops up that you’re subconsciously familiar with. If any of these things have happened to you, then we’ve got the information on some of the biggest stars in the video gaming world that you’ll love to find out about.

The Tony Hawk Series

There are some video games that are renowned for their celebrity cameos, and if you’re into the world of skating or the music that accompanies it, then the Tony Hawk series has got to be right up there with the best of them. This series allowed you to try your hand at skateboarding all from the comfort of your living room. You could be churning out kickflips and grinding down some devilishly difficult rails, all to a killer soundtrack and occasionally with some input from a famous skater or two. There have been so many famous faces in this series that it was really hard to pick the most notable, but Bam Margera was probably the fan favorite among skaters. Music buffs would have maybe been more excited to see the legendary James Hetfield of Metallica though, or even Billie Joe Armstrong of Greenday.

Civilization VI

Some games bring out the celebrities in the form of characters, whilst others choose them for their unmistakable voices. Civilization VI was a much-awaited installment in the series and it did not disappoint. As well as introducing new leaders to play with, an updated method of play and much-improved graphics, the team behind the game managed to bag Sean Bean as their voiceover guy. Famous for playing Boromir in the Lord of the Rings trilogy of films, he was a perfect choice. His voice has depth, strength, and is just familiar enough to spur on players to perform their best in this testing strategy game.

Online Poker

Whilst some people make games incredible by providing the voices, others make them incredible by actually playing. In the world of online poker there are few more popular poker players than Viktor Blom. Despite being totally anonymous for the first part of his online poker career, Blom’s fearless playing style began to get him noticed. It seemed like there wasn’t a hand that he couldn’t bluff his way out of and people loved to watch it. Whilst the stars of live tournaments had a larger following – after all, people could see their faces on their television screens – there was something mysterious about the online players. With only a screen name and an avatar to identify themselves, characters like Viktor Blom in a way became like video game characters, existing in slightly different ways for everybody watching, but no less impressive in their skills.
