A brand new all-star drama has been announced by the BBC and they’ve dropped a trailer for it too, here’s what we know so far:
BBC’s reputation for producing high-quality drama doesn’t seem to be coming down any time soon, with a brand-new drama announced with a cast packed with household names and fresh talent, spearheaded by people very familiar with creating a compelling story.
What’s it about?
A cashier at an inner-city casino has fallen on very hard times and finds herself skimming takings from the cash kept away in the casino’s safe in order to keep up with the cost of keeping her family home. Her guilt is challenged when she discovers her boss doing the same thing and the pair have to face the consequences of their actions, as well as having to handle the gangster they’re stealing from. If that’s not tense enough for you, just wait to see what happens when the police get involved…
Who’s in it?
The two leads are played by Sheridan Smith (Gavin and Stacey) and Michael Socha (Showtrial). The cast also includes Barry Sloane (House of the Dragon), Geraldine James (Dope Girls), Anton Bibby (Liverpool Narcos), Freya Jones (Bolan’s Shoes), Sophie Mensah (Sanctuary: A Witch’s Tale), Shaun Mason (Extraordinary), Louis Emerick (The Power of Parker), Sue Jenkins (Brookside), Eileen O’Brien (Not Going Out), and Mona Goodwin (Extraordinary).
Who’s behind it?
The series is written by Tony Schumacher (The Responder) and is directed by Al Mackay (Kidnapped). Element Pictures (Normal People) is also involved in production. Smith is listed as an executive producer alongside Hilary Martin (Sullivan’s Crossing), Christopher Aird (The Tourist), Ed Guiney (Bugonia), Andrew Lowe (Poor Things), Schumacher and Lucy Richer (Wolf Hall). Clare Shepherd (Last Tango in Halifax) is also listed as a producer on the project.
When’s it out?
The Cage is set to drop in its entirety on BBC iPlayer on 26th April, with weekly episodes releasing at 9pm on BBC One from the same date.
