Turner (Being Human) will lead the Series 2 cast as Ellie, with Gemma Chan (Secret Diary of a Call Girl) joining the cast as Kate’s old friend, Kiera, alongside newcomers Jack Roth and Nikesh Patel. Series 1’s Hugo Speer (The Full Monty) returns as Warren Bettany, Kate’s father.
Set in a converted pre-Victorian lunatic asylum, Bedlam began on Sky Living in February, averaging an impressive 358,800 viewers for its first episode and becoming Sky Living’s most successful commissioned series to date.
Sky’s Head of Drama, Anne Mensah, commented; “We have huge ambitions for Bedlam. The show is a unique combination of engaging relationship drama and real scares. Our fantastic cast are delivering wonderfully on the emotional material and our great production team seem determined to terrify the audience. It’s a fantastic mix”.
Executive producer Nicola Shindler added: “I’m hugely excited to be making more of Bedlam, a show unlike any we have made at [production company] Red in the past. The mixture of scares, sexual tension and dark histories make it a real pleasure. And I’m delighted with the new cast, young, beautiful and very talented. This year will be even better”.
Speaking exclusively to CultBox earlier this year, writer Neil Jones revealed: “We have a plan for Series 2 and beyond – some truly scary ghost stories and deeper, darker secrets about Jed and Bedlam Heights…”
The six new 60-minute episodes will air in Spring 2012.
