The engaging multiplayer video game is getting a new lease of life on television show.
Thanks to news broken by Variety, we’ve learned that Innersloth’s wildly popular game Among Us is getting a television series adaptation.
Among Us, which launched in 2018 and blew up during the pandemic, is described as “a party game of teamwork and betrayal.” It sees players trying to survive on a spaceship with an alien invader and voting out players who are suspect, or “sus”.
In case you’re unfamiliar with Among Us, here’s the game’s logline:
“Members of your crew have been replaced by an alien shapeshifter intent on causing confusion, sabotaging the ship, and killing everyone. Root out the ‘Impostor’ or fall victim to its murderous designs.”
It will be fascinating to see if the show’s addictive playability can translate to television. We’d guess each episode will play through once game, unless the the whole series covers a single game with a round per episode. Also, with the characters who all look the same (save for their colour) quite how will it work? Are those spacesuits coming off?
There’s also the matter of tone – the characters are cute, but the premise is potentially pretty grim with a murderous shapeshifter bumping off the crew and the crewmates spacing those who they think is the killer!
CBS Eye Animation Productions has partnered with the Innersloth to develop the series. Owen Dennis creates and executive produces the project under his overall deal with CBS Studios.
Animation on the Among Us series will come from Titmouse (Star Trek: Lower Decks). With Dennis, the executive producers are Forest Willard, Marcus Bromander, and Carl Neisser of Innersloth. Plus, Chris Prynoski, Shannon Prynoski, Antonio Canobbio, and Ben Kalina of Titmouse.
There’s no broadcaster or streamer attached yet but given the game’s profile, we’d expect interest to be high!
Oh, and we can only apologise for this (but we couldn’t resist!)
