In news that will surprise nobody who has seen the show, Bridgerton season 2 has been confirmed and will focus on Anthony Bridgerton
Given the critical reception and popularity, it’s no surprise Bridgerton has been renewed and goes into production in spring 2021. Can it make a Christmas Day 2021 release? We aren’t sure but we hope so! In true Bridgerton style, the announcement came from Lady Whistledown in a surprise issue of her Society Paper:
It’s all about Anthony Bridgerton
As Lady Whistledown makes clear, first born (they eight Bridgertons are named in alphabetical order by birth) Anthony (Jonathan Bailey) is the main focus of Bridgerton season 2, though other siblings will no doubt have plenty to do. We hope Eloise (Claudia Jessie) and BFF (was that a thing in Regency time?) Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) have plenty of screen time as they did in season 1. Will anyone apart from viewers find out who Lady Whistledown is?
Meanwhile, just what is Anthony up to in season 2? We can take a spoiler filled look at book author Julia Quinn’s website and find out… from here on in there are some minor reveals…
Book 1 is called The Duke and I and told the story of Daphne and Simon. Book 2 is about Anthony and someone named Kate and titled The Viscount Who Loved Me, more than a little reminiscent of a James Bond film. The book synopsis set the scene for at least part of Bridgerton season 2:
1814 promises to be another eventful season, but not, This Author believes, for Anthony Bridgerton, London’s most elusive bachelor, who has shown no indication that he plans to marry.
And in truth, why should he? When it comes to playing the consummate rake, nobody does it better…
—Lady Whistledown’s Society Papers, April 1814
But there’s more:
But this time the gossip columnists have it wrong. Anthony Bridgerton hasn’t just decided to marry—he’s even chosen a wife! The only obstacle is his intended’s older sister, Kate Sheffield—the most meddlesome woman ever to grace a London ballroom. The spirited schemer is driving Anthony mad with her determination to stop the betrothal, but when he closes his eyes at night, Kate is the woman haunting his increasingly erotic dreams…
Contrary to popular belief, Kate is quite sure that reformed rakes do not make the best husbands—and Anthony Bridgerton is the most wicked rogue of them all. Kate is determined to protect her sister—but she fears her own heart is vulnerable. And when Anthony’s lips touch hers, she’s suddenly afraid she might not be able to resist the reprehensible rake herself…
Steamy stuff! We can’t wait to watch. Until then Bridgerton season 1 is on Netlfix now.
