The Time Bandits television series isn’t getting a second run.
Thanks to news via Deadline, we’ve learned the Time Bandits has not been renewed by Apple TV+.
The show, based on the cult movie by Terry Gilliam, came from the creative minds of showrunners Jemaine Clement (Flight of the Conchords) and Iain Morris (The Inbetweeners), and executive producer by Taika Waititi.
Time Bandits employed a large ensemble cast led by former Friends star Lisa Kudrow. Charlyne Yi, Tadhg Murphy, Rune Temte and Roger Jean Nsengiyumva also starred, with both Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi popping up in guest roles.
It’s a swift, Netlfix-style chop for the show which only debuted on the streamer on July 24th, and wrapped up its ten-part run less than a month ago.
As we understand it, Clement and Waititi had begun scripting a second season, but were aware its chances of going forward depended upon viewer numbers. However, despite mostly favourable reviews, it seems that the show did not trouble the Nielsen’s top 10 original streaming series chart during its run.
In a harsh television climate, there’s no time granted to grow an audience any more. Despite the inherent video-on-demand nature of streaming, an expensive show must make a big splash fast.
