The Apple TV+ series adapts Terry Gilliam’s cult 1981 movie Time Bandits into an epic 10-part series.
The Time Bandits series is almost upon us, with a premiere date of Wednesday, July 24th 2024.
Terry Gilliam’s beloved movie becomes a sprawling 10-part series, adapted by co-showrunners Jemaine Clement (Flight of the Conchords) and Iain Morris (The Inbetweeners), and executive produced by Taika Waititi.
All three write and direct episodes, with Clement and Waititi both appearing in the show too.
While Friends‘ Lisa Kudrow leads the cast as Penelope, the principal role of young Kevin goes to Kal-El Tuck.
The ensemble also includes Tadhg Murphy, Roger Jean Nsengiyumva, Rune Temte, Charlyne Yi, Rachel House, Kiera Thompson, James Dryden, Felicity Ward, Francesca Mills and Imaan Hadchiti.
Apple TV+ describe the show as “…an unpredictable journey through time and space with a ragtag group of thieves and their newest recruit: an 11-year-old history buff named Kevin. Together, they set out on a thrilling quest to save the boy’s parents — and the world.”
With a new trailer, following on from May’s teaser, it’s our first chance to really get a sense of the show.
It looks like a lot of fun with an effects budget that the original could have only dreamed of. Plus, we’re awarding top marks for the use of the classic B-52’s track ‘Roam‘ too.
Aimed squarely at the school summer holidays, Apple TV+ drops two episodes of Time Bandits on Wednesday, 24th July. Then, two episodes land weekly throughout the ten part run.
