Elizabeth Banks is set to star and also executive produce Bedrock.
In news likely to rock people of certain age, Deadline are reporting that FOX have given the go ahead to a pilot for a sequel to The Flintstones.
The show, a primetime animated adult comedy series titled Bedrock, has been in gestation for two years.
Bedrock will return to the Flintstone and Rubble families two decades on from the original stories. With Fred on the verge of retirement, his daughter Pebbles is now a 20-something embarking on her own career. The show takes place at a time of change for the town too, as the Stone Age gives way to a shiny and enlightened new Bronze Age.
Elizabeth Banks will star as Pebbles, and the cast also includes Stephen Root as Fred, Amy Sedaris (The Mandalorian) as Wilma, Nicole Byer as Betty, Joe Lo Truglio (Brooklyn Nine Nine) as Barney and Manny Jacinto (The Good Place) as Bamm-Bamm.
With Banks, Max Handelman will executive produce the show via Brownstone Productions, as will Sam Register. The writers are Lindsay Kerns, who co-executive produces, and Lon Zimmet who executive produces too.
Warner Bros. Animation and Fox Entertainment are producing Bedrock.
The Flintstones
The original show, featuring “the modern stone-age family”, first aired in the 1960s. It ran for six seasons, creating 166 episodes. In the UK, The Flintstones seemed to repeat endlessly and thus gathered new generations of fans.
Numerous specials, TV movies and spin-offs followed, featuring some or all of the characters – including 1967’s The Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm Show which depicted the pair as teenagers.
More well-remembered will be the two live-action movies. The Flintstones (1994) was big box-office hit, the subsequent prequel The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas (2000) was less so.
However, the gang’s most recent outing was for 2015’s remarkable straight-to-DVD crossover movie The Flintstones & WWE: Stone Age SmackDown!
There are no words!
We’ll keep you posted on Bedrock.
