Stars of screens large and small Ben Whishaw and Hugh Grant will star in BBC One’s A Very English Scandal, written by Russell T Davies and directed by Stephen Frears.
Whishaw’s casting was announced by Davies at the Edinburgh International Television Festival today, and the actor will join Grant in the adaptation of John Preston’s bestselling book.
Grant will play MP Jeremy Thorpe, the first British politician to go on trial for conspiracy and incitement of murder of his ex-lover Norman Scott in 1979, reports Deadline. Despite being acquitted, the scandal ended his career.
Whishaw will play Scott, returning to the BBC after his BAFTA-winning turn in London Spy. Grant, meanwhile, hasn’t acted for television since the early-90s.
