But sometimes you have to go beneath the surface to find what you’re looking for – like Baldassare Forestiere, who spent 40 years digging Fresno’s vast underground garden, going as deep as 23 feet undergroud and spanning 10 over acres – all dug by hand!
The garden is now home to more than 20 varieties of fruit trees and vines, some of them over 100 years old.
As Forestiere’s great-niece says: “How many places can you go to and see citrus trees growing underground?”
