Code 8: Part II is being filmed this year and will be distributed by Netflix
Netflix has announced it has acquired the global rights to Canadian sci-fi sequel Code 8: Part II from Collective Pictures.
It will be directed by Jeff Chan, who shares writing credits with Chris Paré, Sherren Lee and Jesse LaVercombe. Producers are Jeff Chan, Robbie Amell, Stephen Amell, Chris Paré. Cousins Robbie (Upload) and Stephen Amell (Arrow) both return, so to a large extent it’s the core of the crew from the 2019 film Code 8.
There’s little other detail in the Netflix announcement, beyond a reminder of the plot:
After witnessing the murder of her brother and subsequent cover up, a teenage girl with abnormal abilities seeks the help of an ex-con (Robbie Amell) and his former partner-in-crime (Stephen Amell). Together, they face a unit of corrupt police officers who deploy advanced robotic technology to prevent themselves from being exposed.
The film scored 80% with critics on Rotten Tomatoes, though only a more modest 61% with fans. The first film is on Netflix and we expect they’ve looked at the numbers, so expect this to do well enough to justify the investment. As ever we’ll keep you posted on more news as we get it.
