Come Away: Angelina Jolie and David Oyelowo join new fantasy film

Angelina Jolie and David Oyelowo are in talks to play central roles in a fantasy drama movie called Come Away, which will mark the live-action debut of Brave director/co-writer Brenda Chapman.

The script for Come Away heralds from Marissa Kate Goodhill, whose only previous writing credit is a short film entitled Lost And Found. Oyelowo is working as one of the producers on the film, through his company Yoruba Saxon Productions. If all goes to plan, the shoot will start in the UK with Oyelowo before moving to Los Angeles and picking up Jolie.

Come Away reimagines certain elements of fantasy lore, positioning itself as a prequel to both Alice In Wonderland and Peter Pan. Deadline describes the plot thusly:

“Before Alice went to Wonderland, and before Peter became Pan, they were brother and sister. When their eldest brother dies in a tragic accident, they each seek to save their parents (Jolie & Oyelowo) from their downward spirals of despair until finally they are forced to choose between home and imagination. This sets the stage for their iconic journeys into Wonderland and Neverland.”

Chapman said this about the casting:

“Angelina and David are going to bring a beautiful chemistry and depth to this magical story, giving audiences a wonderful step outside the expected.”

And Goodhill said this about Chapman:

“Brenda is a singular storyteller. Her decades of experience in creating rich fantasy worlds populated by complex characters make her a dream director for this project, which explores how fantasy functions as a way to cope with reality. Her thoughtful approach to filmmaking and indomitable talent make her the perfect person to bring this story to life.”

We’ll keep you posted as we hear more about this intriguing project.
