The streamer is mining the Disney back catalogue for inspiration again.

According to news via Variety, a pilot has been ordered for Holes, based Louis Sachar’s 1998 book.

To many, the story may be best known thanks to its 2003 movie adaptation from Walt Disney Pictures.

Holes tells the story of Stanley Yelnats, an unlucky boy who is sent to a juvenile detention camp for a crime he did not commit. Incarcerated at Camp Green Lake, Stanley is forced to spend his days digging holes in a dry lake bed. But as the story unfolds, Stanley discovers that both his own story and the story of his family are more connected to Camp Green Lake than he could have ever imagined.

According to the report, the series reimagines the story for a female protagonist. The pilot comes from writer Alina Mankin (The Mindy Project) and showrunner Liz Phang (Foundation, Locke & Key). The pair are executive producers alongside Drew Goddard (Daredevil, The Good Place).

The 2003 movie, directed by Andrew Davis, starred Shia LeBoeuf as Stanley. He was surrounded by an impressive cast including Sigourney Weaver, Jon Voight, Tim Blake Nelson and Patricia Arquette..

Naturally, you can find it on Disney+ – and we’ll keep you posted on the Holes pilot and potential series.
