Extraordinary Season Two

Disney+ swings the axe on Extraordinary & Shardlake

Neither of the two Disney+ U.K. originals have scored a recommission.

In disappointing news, Variety have revealed that two UK made Disney+ shows will not be getting further seasons.

This follows hot on the heels of news that the Frasier revival’s future is in doubt.

First up is the flat share comedy Extraordinary from writer Emma Moran, set in a world where (almost) everybody develops a superpower at 18 years of age.

The show, which has enjoyed two seasons, made stars of Máiréad Tyers and Sofia Oxenham who were both BAFTA nominated for their roles. It also ended on a massive cliffhanger too – I guess we’ll never know the fate of Jen now, or indeed what her power was. If ever there was a show that deserved a graphic novel continuation, it’s this one…

The second in Shardlake, the Tudor period murder mystery based on the novels of the late CJ Sampson.

Starring Arthur Hughes and Antony Boyle, the series followed the title character investigating a murder within a remote monastery town. He’s dispatched there by Thomas Cromwell, with Sean Bean adding some star power to proceedings.

A Disney+ representative said:

“Disney+ Original series ‘Extraordinary’ will not be returning for a third season on the service. We’re so proud of the hilarious, award-winning series brought to life by the incredibly talented British and Irish cast and crew, our production partners at Sid Gentle Films, and the exceptional writing talent of creator Emma Moran. Disney+ Original series, ‘Shardlake’ will also not be returning for a second season on the service. We’d like to thank Stephen Butchard who adapted the late C.J. Sansom’s beloved novel for the screen, the entire cast – led by the outstanding Arthur Hughes – and crew, and our production partners The Forge and Runaway Fridge. We hope to work with all of our partners across these shows again in the future.”

You can still find both shows on the streamer.
