The news finally landed yesterday that the new Doctor Who is set to be Jodie Whittaker. She’ll be taking on the role from Peter Capaldi this Christmas, before heading into series 11 with new showrunner Chris Chibnall.
Whittaker has been cast in the role for a little while now, but obviously, has had to play the game of keeping things secret. So much so that she’s admitted she had a codename for the role.
“I’ve told a lot of lies”, she admitted in an interview with the BBC. “I’ve embroiled myself in a whole world of lies which is going to come back at me when this is announced!”
In particular, she revealed the codename for the role that she’s been using, as she kept the secret under wraps. “In my home, and with my agent, it was The Clooney. Because to me and my husband, George is an iconic guy. And we thought: what’s a really famous iconic name? It was just fitting”.
Whittaker also added that she had her first conversation with Chris Chibnall about the role earlier this year.
