BAFTA Cymru (the British Academy of Film and Television Arts in Wales) has announced that writer, producer and showrunner, Russell T Davies will receive a prestigious award for his contributions to television.
Davies will receive this year’s Outstanding Contribution to Television Award at the ceremony this year.
He has written, produced and filmed several productions in Wales including Doctor Who, Torchwood, The Sarah Jane Adventures, Casanova, Cucumber, Banana and Tofu. Davies has also been involved in other Wales-based productions.
On the award, Davies said it was an “enormous compliment” to be honoured by Bafta Cymru.
“Receiving this Outstanding Contribution Award is an honour. It means people have watched something and remembered something that you’ve done.”

Davies received an OBE for services to drama in 2018, and was elected as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature in 2022.
The award will be presented at the 2025 BAFTA Cymru Awards at the ICC Wales in Newport on Sunday, 5 October. The ceremony will celebrate the best in Welsh film and television and will be hosted by Welsh presenter Owain Wyn Evans.
