Channel 4 has renewed its deal with Disney Entertainment.

It’s been announced that animation’s first family are leaving their weeknight slot on Channel 4. Instead, from January 2025, the show will make a new home on E4.

Furthermore, new seasons of The Simpsons will initially premiere on Disney+ before broadcasting on E4 a few months later.

New episodes will also be available to stream as a boxset from the Channel 4 streaming service for a limited time after their E4 airing. These will be accompanied by a selection of library episodes.

Despite predictably hysterical tabloid headlines about Channel 4 axing the show, the new deal looks set to assure the show’s free-to-air future for the foreseeable. The Simpsons have been with the broadcaster since 2004.

Channel 4’s head of acquisitions, Polly Scates, said:

The Simpsons and Channel 4 have a historic relationship, and I’m delighted that we will continue to bring this much loved and iconic series to our audience. In an evolving market, collaboration has never felt more important, and it’s been a pleasure working with Disney Entertainment to bring the latest seasons to UK viewers, who can now watch the show on E4 and C4 Streaming once it has aired on Disney +.”

Season 36 of The Simpsons launches exclusively on Disney+ in the Spring. The streamer also holds all previous seasons, as well as 10 shorts and 2007’s The Simpsons Movie.
