Extraordinary – new cast for season 2 of the superpowered comedy

Posted Filed under

The Mighty Boosh’s Julian Barratt joins Extraordinary, and Derek Jacobi cameos too.

Extraordinary is a delightfully down to earth super-powers comedy which landed last year and we were thrilled to see it score a recommission.

Screening on Hulu in the US and Disney+ elsewhere, it takes place in a world where most manifest abilities as they turn eighteen. They range from the useful, such as flight, to the utterly bizarre – like the power to 3D print from your rear end.

However, Extraordinary‘s Jen (Máiréad Tyers) is a late bloomer and the show follows her struggles to try and make it happen. Against this backdrop, the show is also a wickedly funny flatshare tale.

Jen’s flatmates are Carrie (Sofia Oxenham), who can channel the dead, and Kash (Bilal Hasna), who’s able to turn back time. They’re joined by Jizzlord (Luke Rollason), a remarkable shapeshifting stray who they adopt.

Also in the cast are Jen’s Mum (Siobhán McSweeney of Derry Girls) and her stepdad Ian (Robbie Gee).

Here’s the synopsis for Extraordinary Season 2

Season two picks up where season one spectacularly left off. Season one sees Jen, a painfully self-aware 25-year-old woman, still waiting to get hers. She’d take anything at this point. Adrift in a big, confusing world and armed with nothing but a bit of hope, a lot of desperation and her flatmates, Jen begins her journey to find her maybe-superpower. But in doing so, she might discover the joy of being just kind of ok.

The show has revealed additions to the cast for the new run; Julian Barratt (The Mighty Boosh) is George, Jen’s power coach at the Discovery clinic, Rosa Robson (Inside No. 9) is Nora, an unexpected person from Jizzlord’s past, and Kwaku Mills (The Other One) plays Clark, Carrie’s new work colleague.

Additionally, we’re promised that Derek Jacobi will “voice a special cameo” too.

Extraordinary comes from writer Emma Moran and is directed by Toby MacDonald and Jennifer Sheridan. The executive producers are Sally Woodward Gentle and Lee Morris for Sid Gentle Films, and Charles Dawson. Plus, Johanna Devereaux, Vice President, Scripted Content for Disney+ and Emma Moran. The producers are Charlie Palmer and Abíólá Rufai-Awójídé.

Extraordinary Season 2 arrives in early 2024. We’ll keep you posted.
