Netflix has released a teaser trailer for new series Fate: the Winx Saga and shared the date it will be available to watch
Fate: the Winx Saga is a new series for Netflix, based on the Italian cartoon series Winx Club by Iginio Straffi. It’s classed as a re-imagining, so expect changes. Filmed in County Wicklow, Ireland, the show follows the coming-of-age journey of five fairies attending Alfea, a magical boarding school in the Otherworld where they must learn to master their magical powers while navigating love, rivalries, and the monsters that threaten their very existence.
We have to say it does sound similar to more than one other series already out there, and this won’t be the first time Netflix has tried series with similar setups. High school drama is something US TV is noted for, but we do hope this series finds its own niche sooner than later.
The trailer can be seen here and comes with the following message:
Are you ready to discover the Otherworld? Meet us at the gates of Alfea College on January 22, 2021.
As to Winx Club itself, that already exists as an animated series, and premiered in Italy in 2004. It has since become hugely successful and brought Straffi international attention. The Netflix series stars Eliot Salt (Normal People), Abigail Cowen (The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina), Hannah van der Westhuysen (Grantchester), Precious Mustapha (Endeavour), Elisha Applebaum (No Reasons) and Sadie Soverall (Rose Plays Julie).
