The first official promotional photos for Cuffs have been released, featuring Sherlock star Amanda Abbington.
The new “fast-paced contemporary cop show” begins at 8pm on Wednesday 28 October on BBC One.
Alongside Abbington as DS Jo Moffat, the cast includes Ashley Walters (Top Boy), Peter Sullivan (The Borgias), Shaun Dooley (Exile), Paul Ready (Utopia), Eleanor Matsuura (Vexed) and Alex Carter (Hollyoaks) with Jacob Ifan.
Written by Julie Gearey (Prisoners’ Wives, Secret Diary Of A Call Girl), the eight episodes were filmed on location in Brighton, Shoreham-by-Sea and surrounding areas this summer.
The official synopsis reads: “Cuffs is a fresh, authentic and visceral drama that will take the audience on an exhilarating ride through the challenges of front-line policing. Adrenalized and vibrant, the show is packed full of dramatic incidents and colourful characters. From a booby trapped cannabis farm in a suburban semi to an elderly farmer’s wife with a shotgun, the stories are surprising and exciting. There will be more absurd altercations – such as a middle-class dog-napping or fisticuffs between pensioners – as well as the daily grind of speeding drivers, city-centre shoplifters and Saturday night drinkers.”
Tiger Aspect’s Head of Drama Will Gould commented earlier this year: “With her incredible wit, authenticity and balls-out storytelling – Julie Gearey is taking the cop show genre back to basics to create a fresh and bold series, bang up to date for 2015. And we can’t wait for her vision to be brought to life by director Anthony Philipson and our extraordinarily talented and diverse cast.”
