New Netflix crime film Glass Onion is already in the Top 10 list with plenty of time to go higher
Glass Onion, the Rian Johnson sequel to Knives Out, starring Daniel Craig is already pulling in a decent audience, and the Netflix data for December 26 – January shows just how large that is. As they say in their weekly analysis:
…had 127.25M hours viewed on the English Films List, making it the most viewed title this week. With a “Certified Fresh” score of 93% on Rotten Tomatoes, the mystery whodunnit entered the Most Popular List with 209.40M hours viewed. After only 10 days, Glass Onion is the third most watched film by hours viewed (following Red Notice and Don’t Look Up) and in this time, 90M households have seen the film (209.40M hours viewed divided by 2.3 hours). And the world couldn’t get enough of Benoit Blanc, Knives Out (2019) is #3 on the English Films List with 16.76M hours viewed.
If you don’t know, Beniot Blanc is ‘the world’s greatest detective’ played by Daniel Craig. The film synopsis is:
Benoit Blanc returns to peel back the layers in a new Rian Johnson whodunit. This fresh adventure finds the intrepid detective at a lavish private estate on a Greek island, but how and why he comes to be there is only the first of many puzzles. Blanc soon meets a distinctly disparate group of friends gathering at the invitation of billionaire Miles Bron for their yearly reunion. Among those on the guest list are Miles’ former business partner Andi Brand, current Connecticut governor Claire Debella, cutting-edge scientist Lionel Toussaint, fashion designer and former model Birdie Jay and her conscientious assistant Peg, and influencer Duke Cody and his sidekick girlfriend Whiskey. As in all the best murder mysteries, each character harbors their own secrets, lies and motivations. When someone turns up dead, everyone is a suspect.
It really is worth a watch (we at Cultbox Towers are still debating which we prefer out of Glass Onion and Knives Out.
Record breaking?
Glass Onion may be the third most popular after 10 days, but the after 28 days published table shows it in #10:
With a further 18 days data to collect, and the distance to the #1 spot a mere 155 million hours (not much more than last week’s number, bolstered by the holiday season) there’s every chance Glass Onion will be a contender for the top. We’ll be keeping our eyes peeled.
