Hit Squad promises a 21st century take on Anderson’s Supermarionation style with a grown-up tone.
From Thunderbirds to Space: 1999, Terrahawks to Space Precinct, the legacy of filmmaker Gerry Anderson is an impressive one.
Many of his shows retain a loyal fanbase, still buying merchandise and listening to audio dramas to this day.
Of course, for all the shows that we enjoyed, other Anderson ideas didn’t make it to the screen. One such show is Hit Squad, which is about to enjoy its chance thanks to a pick up from animators Hanna-Barbera.
Hit Squad
Initially developed in 1983, alongside Terrahawks, Hit Squad is an espionage action-comedy set in 1990’s London. It follows the daring adventures of an international team of talented spies hellbent on putting death before dishonour as they battle the murky world of underground villainy.
The show will be an adult animated series, blending practical and digital effects to revitalise an authentic Gerry Anderson concept for the 21st century.
Gerry Anderson’s son and Anderson Entertainment‘s managing director, Jamie Anderson, is serving as executive producer. Joining him are producer Russell McLean and director Darren Walsh.
McLean and Walsh said:
“We’re over the moon at the prospect of diving into the legendary world of Gerry Anderson to embark on this brand-new action comedy series. Our art department is gearing up to create a new generation of puppets and fabulously over-engineered machines to take Supermarionation to the next level. The opportunity to work alongside Anderson Entertainment, the Warner Bros. Animation and Hanna-Barbera Studios Europe team is a dream come true for Mr Morris Productions and we will endeavour to do justice to this great legacy – Stand by for action!”
Jamie Anderson added:
“As the proud son of Gerry Anderson, I’m genuinely grateful to Warner Bros. and Hanna Barbera Europe for recognising the timeless spark in Anderson storytelling and jumping aboard Hit Squad so enthusiastically. Their partnership proves that when you nurture authentic, family-rooted IP, you don’t just feed into nostalgia – you unlock fresh adventures for today’s audience. And with Thunderbirds’ 60th anniversary on the horizon, this is a brief but perfect launch window for new Anderson stories to take flight.”
