Harrison Ford to star in Apple TV+’s comedy series Shrinking

It’s his first regular television role.

We love to see a career develop, so were thrilled to hear about Harrison Ford landing a regular TV gig. We’re sure he’ll appreciate the stability of a regular gig after all those years of film work!

Seriously though, proving the walls between film and television are now permeable like never before, Ford has a role in the new Apple TV+ comedy series Shrinking. He’s starring alongside Jason Segel, a grieving and burnt-out therapist who starts telling his patients exactly what he’s thinking. Ignoring his training and ethics, he finds himself making huge changes to people’s lives – including his own.

Ford is set to play Dr Phil Rhodes, as down-to-earth “blue collar shrink” who’s a pioneer in cognitive behavioural therapy. Sharing a practice with two his protégés, Jimmy (Segel) and Gaby, Rhodes has recently been diagnosed with Parkinson’s, which forces him out of his comfort zone as he deals with intrusive friends, his estranged family, and his legacy.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the show is being made by Warner Brothers TV as part of Doozer Productions’ deal. It’s from the team behind Ted Lasso, Bill Lawrence and Brett Goldstein. The pair will write and executive produce with Neil Goldman and Doozer’s Jeff Ingold and Liza Katzer.

As we said, this is a rare foray onto television. At the start of his career, he notched up a few guest roles in shows like Ironside and Gunsmoke. There are a couple of TV movie roles too, but he’s been gainfully employed on the big screen ever since. He’s starred in the Star Wars and Indiana Jones franchises and taken the lead in hits such as The Fugitive, Blade Runner and Witness, to name but a few.

Although, Ford did return to television for one memorable appearance… as the bearded fifty-year-old version of Indy in an episode of The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles!

Of course, it’s the fifth Indiana Jones movie that we’re waiting to see him in next. Directed by James Mangold, the film is due for release in mid-202s and also stars Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Mads Mikkelsen, Antonio Banderas and Toby Jones.

In the meantime, we’ll keep you posted about Shrinking.
