Sofia Vassilieva will play Looker, a vampire/superhero that fought alongside Black Lightning in a comic book team named The Outsiders, in the second season of the Black Lightning TV series.
Interestingly, this isn’t Vassilieva’s first role in The CW’s DC TV Multiverse. She previously played a cult member named Olivia in Supergirl season 3, across two episodes of the Melissa-Benoist-led series. But, since Black Lightning and Supergirl seem to exist in different dimensions, there’s nothing to stop her from nabbing this vampiric role as well.
In the comics, Looker’s real name is Emily ‘Lia’ Briggs, and she was created by Mike W. Barr and Jim Aparo back in 1985 for a series entitled Batman And The Outsiders. The character gained her vampire-like powers when Halley’s Comet passed by the Earth, and went on to fight alongside Batman, Black Lightning, Metamorpho, Geo-Force, Katana and Halo in the Outsiders team.
As for how Black Lightning will adapt Looker’s story for TV, showrunner Salim Akil said this to TV Line:
“It’s really going to be interesting, the way we approach that story…. I think people will enjoy it, but also be challenged by it.”
Outside of the DC universe, you might recognise Vassilieva from My Sister’s Keeper, Medium, Lucifer or Law & Order: SVU. She has also lent her voice to several high profile video games, including Mafia III and Call Of Duty: WWII.
Black Lightning returns to The CW on October 9th. The first episode should land on Netflix UK the next day.
